The Brand Identity Design Process

The Paperwork

For brand identity projects (including a logo only project), the first step is to complete the questionnaire to provide information about your project. Once completed, I will contact you to setup a meeting where I can ask additional questions. After our initial meeting, I will send a design contract that specifies the deliverables, milestones, and cost. 50% deposit is required to start the project and the remaining balance will be due 30 days after hand-off of final deliverables.

The Research

This is a critical step of the process as this guides the direction of the design. You’ll receive a brand personality form to complete that will provide me with additional direction for what you’re looking for. You’ll send any existing branding over for review. From there, I will spend time researching competition, your company, and target audience and put together a mood board that summarizes the information. We’ll meet to review the mood board and agree on the direction to take to creating your brand identity.

The Concepts

During the concept phase, I spend time sketching and refining logo concepts, identifying the typeface and color(s) for the logo and will provide you with a few design concepts and examples of how they can be used. We’ll meet to select one concept and move on to the next stage: refinement.

The Refinement

After our meeting to go over the concepts, you’ll review with your team (if applicable) and provide additional feedback, ideally within one week. Once I receive your additional feedback, I’ll refine the selected concept and provide you with a new draft. We’ll review this latest revision and if additional changes are needed, we’ll have another round of edits. The design process includes up to three rounds of edits, if additional edits are required, these will be billed at an additional cost based on time spent; meetings, revision, presentation, etc.

The Delivery

We’ve done it! You’ve got a new logo and/or complete brand identity. In this last phase, we’ll have one more meeting where I’ll hand off the files (via my FTP site) and answer any last questions. If additional services are needed, we can talk about your new requirements.
